Be Aware – There is a major outbreak of dengue fever in Tonga, so please be careful if you are travelling there, and follow public health advice.
Cases of dengue have been detected in Tongatapu and ‘Eua, and in Vava’u.
Anyone can become infected with the dengue virus after being bitten by an infected mosquito. It cannot be spread directly between people.
People over 60-years-old and children aged 10 and younger are at greater health risk from dengue.
