About Us

The Pasifika O Wairarapa Trust supports families in the Wairarapa by providing a one stop multi-disciplinary wrap-around approach that caters for the specific needs of individuals and families. Services they deserve as of right. From financial to education, general welfare to health, immigration to pastoral care and housing to youth and justice.

The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted that there was no single organisation to coordinate support, advocate for or provide for the diverse needs of Pasifika peoples of the Wairarapa. As a result, the informal Pasifika Council, the Trust’s forerunner was established, with one of its initial tasks, to create a database of the Wairarapa Pasifika community.

This foundation work and early endeavours also identified the need for a Pasifika-by-Pasifika approach hence the Council was formalised as a registered Charitable Trust, with its inaugural meeting in October 2021.

The Pasifika o Wairarapa Trust is governed by a Board comprising community leaders, representing the Pasifika ethnic and geographical regions of Melanesia, Philippines, Micronesia, and Polynesia, and a representative of the three local authorities, Masterton District Council, Carterton District Council and South Wairarapa District Council.

Using the new data and with the support of the two Iwi, Rangitane o Wairarapa and Ngati Kahungunu ki Wairarapa, Pasifika o Wairarapa Trust continues to source and deliver welfare and health support to Pasifika families. It continues to be actively involved in providing similar support and pastoral care to Pasifika visa workers and Recognised Seasonal Employers workers (RSE). It is the only Pasifika specific service provider in the Wairarapa Region. And is committed to serve and find solutions in collaboration with government and non- government agencies, local and regional authorities, and all key stakeholders.

The Pasifika o Wairarapa Trust has a vision of actively promoting and enhancing the holistic well-being of Pasifika people living or working in the Wairarapa. While the focus will be towards the Pasifika peoples, it is, nevertheless, mandated to support any individual or family, of any nationality, wishing to be served by the Trust, whose work and practices are underpinned and guided by Pasifika values of Respect, Integrity, Compassion, Humility, Kindness, and Spirituality.
